Superb performances from James Hands (4-36) and Tanweer Sikandar (100no) secured Blackheath a comfortable seven wicket victory against Bromley in the Kent Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday.

Australian all-rounder Daniel Christian won the toss but could only make 16 at the top of the innings before being bowled by Essex quick bowler Tymal Mills (2-15).

Miguel Barbosa (50) and Richard Selvey-Clinton (42) looked set to post a competitive total, although Bromley collapsed from 147-4 to 152-8 as Hands and Warren Lee (3-44) took control.

Dominic Reed (70) smashed eight fours and three maximums in a brilliant counter-attacking innings.

But with Bromley’s last five batsmen only contributing two runs, Blackheath were able to restrict the hosts to an under-par 209.

Kent’s Robbie Joseph dismissed the dangerous Jahid Ahmed early, but this merely brought Sikandar to the crease, who guided his side to victory with a composed unbeaten century.

Calum Haggett (26no) also finished unbeaten as Blackheath chased Bromley’s modest total with eight overs and seven wickets to spare.

However, with league leaders Sevenoaks Vine (350-3) destroying Bickley Park (147) by 203 runs, the gap at the top remains at five points.

Bickley won the toss but quickly regretted inserting the visitors as Fabian Cowdrey (155no) and John Bowden (127) both smashed centuries to launch the Vine to a commanding 350-3.

The chase was well beyond a struggling Bickley side.

A solid collective bowling effort, of which Nicholas Sale (4-30) starred, saw the hosts bowled out for 147.

In a similar match, Hartley (350-8) recorded their sixth win in seven fixtures against Canterbury (164).

Dan Stickels and Shane Deitz shared a partnership of 145 as the hosts made good use of fine batting conditions at Hartley.

Both fell just three short of tons, but the platform was excellently set and allowed Hartley to reach 350 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Canterbury lacked the firepower to challenge Hartley’s huge total and were eventually dismissed for 164.

James Hockley (4-18) and Jack Laraman (3-61) picked up the majority of the scalps.

Beckenham (231-9) were unable to elongate their gap from the relegation zone, losing to Sandwich Town (232-5) by five wickets.

Substantial scores from Chris Isles (78), William MacVicar (61) and Raza Ali Dar (43) ensured Beckenham posted a competitive score.

However, the class and experience of Kent wicket-keeper Geraint Jones (85no) and Marnus Labuschagne (69) saw Sandwich over the line with 19 deliveries remaining.

Following last week’s shock triumph over Sevenoaks, Bexley (240) failed to record consecutive victories in a high-scoring game at Lordswood (274).

Matt Greenwood (71) and Palash Joshi (53) hit fifties as Lordswood surpassed 250, with only the ever-impressive Adeel Malik (4-33) and Kent seamer Adam Ball (3-61) able to trouble the hosts.

Fluent knocks from Malik (48), Mike Maietta (34) and Mehdi Abbas (33) momentarily concerned Lordswood, but the loss of five wickets for 17 runs earlier in the innings shattered any chance of a successful Bexley chase.

Saturday’s fixtures (12pm start): Beckenham v Lordswood, Bexley v Hartley, Blackheath v Bickley Park, Canterbury v Bromley.
