Ashes winner Geraint Jones is hoping to see lots of Kent’s kids catch the bug of playing cricket for the first time and is looking for energetic people to join the Catch Cricket team.

From May, Catch Cricket will see the first of their first 12 centres open across Kent, bringing the fun of cricket to youngsters aged from two to 11.

In an innovative new venture, the Kent and England wicketkeeper is looking to get as many of the community involved with the initiative that will bring indoor cricket to towns and cities right across the county.

Recruiting around 50 new people to run their centres, Jones will be actively involved in bringing in the right people to Catch Cricket, with three recruitment nights scheduled to take place at the end of March.

The kind of people Catch Cricket are looking for are enthusiastic, energetic, hard working lovers of sport and cricket, with the scheme’s director of cricket Jones MBE excited about what lies ahead:

He said: “We’re going to be having centres opening all across Kent so there will be coaching and management opportunities to deliver the Catch experience county-wide.

“It’s an exciting time for me to be part of Catch Cricket.

“I'm keen to see boys and girls in Kent getting into cricket.

“Coming and joining in a Catch Cricket session will provide the child with a great time, learn cricket skills and meet lots of new friends.”

Catch Cricket encourages mums and dads to get stuck in and take part in the sessions too, getting the whole family active.

The sessions will run over six and 12 week terms with the emphasis strongly on having fun.

And for director of operations Stuart Bell, the ethos is about getting kids active.

He explained: “Catch Cricket works on so many levels, linking up multiple initiatives under one umbrella.

“Children will develop technical, social and physical skills through our unique nurturing philosophy and whether they are experiencing cricket for the first time or perhaps wanting to enjoy the game further, everyone will have fun doing so.

“The programme is currently unique to Kent & we are delighted to have such luminary ambassadors actively involved with us in Darren Stevens and Azhar Mahmood.”
