HESKETH Park in Dartford hosted the popular Kent Cricket Board U9s mini super eights county finals day on Sunday.

The day is a culmination of a competition which saw 80 teams take part in qualifying events, with the winners advancing to finals day.

Beckenham took on Tunbridge Wells in the grand final, with both sides going into the decider undefeated.

After an excellent close match which went down to the wire, Tunbridge Wells ran out as winners and were crowned 2013 champions.

Other teams from the News Shopper area taking part in the finals day were OD Cuaco (third), Blackheath (eighth), Bickley Park (ninth), Dartford (10th), Gravesend and Greenwich Juniors (joint 15th), Bexley Broad (18th) and Bexley Bairstow (22nd).

Director of Kent Cricket Board Clair Gould said: “It is brilliant to see nearly 250 children in colourful shirts brighten up a cloudy cold day with fantastic smiles, supported by large crowds and family members.

“All of the games were played in the best spirit and these events can only inspire more people to get involved in sport.”
