BROMLEY District U14s suffered a four wicket defeat at the hands of Maidstone at the Kent district finals day.

Returning to the finals for the second year running, Bromley showed no hesitation in choosing to bat having won the toss.

Looking to banish memories from 2012, having also batted first only to be bowled out for 23, the Bromley openers made a steady start reaching 33 in the eighth over before losing the first wicket.

However, there was some symmetry with the batting performance of 12 months ago, with only three players scoring double figures with a top score of 35 from Becket at number four.

Facing a very disciplined bowling attack from Maidstone, the Bromley side of 2013 showed far more determination and didn’t lose the last wicket until the 32nd over, reaching a total of 101.

Bromley started well, taking the first wicket with the eighth ball of the innings, but they were halted with the second wicket partnership taking Maidstone to 45 before the second opening batsman was dismissed for 29.

With both openers now gone, Bromley piled on the pressure with some phenomenal fielding and another four wickets tumbled, including two catches and a run out.

But a calm Maidstone lower order took them over the line with 8.2 overs and four wickets to spare.
