KENT are still searching for a first County Championship win after last week’s draw with Glamorgan.

Following a disappointing first innings in which they were dismissed for 135, Kent were invited to follow on 243 runs behind.

Due to the continued absence of Mark Davies (injured) and captain James Tredwell (England duty), combined with Matt Coles missing out due to a personal matter, Kent bolstered their attack by bringing in Mitchell Claydon.

Claydon, who is on loan from Durham, claimed three wickets on his debut, but Kent’s most successful bowler was Calum Haggett (4-94).

Charlie Shreck accounted for the other three Glamorgan batsmen, including centurion Murray Goodwin.

Kent’s batsmen fared much better the second time around.

Darren Stevens top scored with 119, while Rob Key (85), Ben Harmison (64), Brendon Nash (50) and Claydon (40) all made significant contributions to the 489-9 tally which secured the draw.

Tomorrow sees the Kent Spitfires take on the Sussex Sharks in a 40 over day/night match at Canterbury.

Kent lie second in the league, although only the champions are guaranteed to progress to the semi-finals, so a victory is vital to give the Spitfires any hope of catching leaders Nottinghamshire.

A healthy attendance is expected in Canterbury on Saturday as Kent take on New Zealand in T20 warm-up match.
