EXCITEMENT is growing as some of the greatest names in cricket head to Bexley CC early next month for a charity match against the best young talent from north Kent.

Inzaman Ul-Haq, Courtney Walsh, Gordon Greenidge, Saqlain Mushtaq, Ian Harvey and Phil DeFreitas are just some of the stars on show for The Lashings World XI at Bexley Cricket Club on July 5.

The game is being organised by Kevin Brewer, a vice principal at the Leigh Academies Trust and a former Lashings player.

He said: “I am really excited to bring this event to the Bexley community and I’m sure the public will turn up in droves to see some of the greatest players in history.

“I have put together a side, including many national and county representatives at U19 level, who will be going out to win the game.”

The Lashings started life as a pub team two decades ago but has gone on to become the Harlem Globetrotters of cricket by fielding some of the most illustrious names from around the world, including Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar.

Lashings chairman David Folb said: “It is a pleasure to bring my team to a great club like Bexley CC and support Kevin and the Leigh Academies Trust by putting on a great entertainment spectacle for the public.

“I hope the people of Bexley and the surrounding areas come and meet some real legends of cricket and grab a few photos and autographs, for which the players will be only too happy to oblige.”

Bexley Cricket Club is located at Manor Way and gates open at 1pm for the July 5 game, which is scheduled to start at 2.30pm.

Cost of entry is £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.

A handful of remaining tables are still available at the corporate lunch prior to the game.
