KENT entertained Leicestershire in a County Championship Division Two encounter at Tunbridge Wells festival week.

Sadly, for the second four-day game in a row, bad weather again ensured Kent had to settle for a draw.

Despite the absence of Mark Davies (injured), Sam Northeast (ill) and captain James Tredwell (England duty), Kent had the better of the abbreviated first day, taking four wickets in the 90 minutes available.

Thursday was a total washout, but Kent got to work with the ball on Friday and dismissed Leicestershire for 186.

Darren Stevens was in fine form against his former county (5-39) and was backed up by Charlie Shreck and Calum Haggett, who shared the other five wickets.

Rob Key and Brendan Nash (above) continued their good form and both completed centuries on Saturday.

The crowd were also treated to a spectacular 97 off just 58 balls by Stevens, as Kent declared on 353-3.

Despite the early dismissal of Niall O’Brien by Stevens, Leicestershire batted out to safety comfortably with Greg Smith and Ned Eckersley both recording unbeaten half centuries.

Festival week was completed with a one-day match against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

The visitors enjoyed the excellent batting conditions and racked up a formidable 263-4, courtesy of a 77-ball 102 from Alex Wakeley.

Kent seemed to be well in touch thanks to a good start by Sam Billings and Northest, but the middle order lost their way and despite a belligerent 43 from Alex Blake, they finished 29 runs short.

Today sees Kent start a County Championship game away to Hampshire in Southampton hoping for an upturn in fortunes as they look to climb up the league table.
