KIRK Edwards hit 77 runs as Blackheath eased to a five-wicket victory over Bromley in the Kent Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday.
Hosts Blackheath won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision which looked to be a good one as Wayne Morgan (7) was caught by Joe Kerridge to leave the visitors on 11-1.
Callum Basey’s 31 steadied the ship somewhat as Bromley moved up to 52-3, but it was Richard Clinton who impressed most for the visitors as his 67 lifted the visitors to 167-7.
Iftikhar Ahmed claimed Clinton’s wicket, the second of three for him in figures of 3-43.
Bromley eventually posted a target of 188-9 from their 55 overs, a tally Blackheath managed to reach with almost 15 overs to spare.
Edwards did most of the damage with a sterling batting effort, finally being stumped by Andrew Wright to leave the hosts on 131-4.
But they were to lose only one more wicket - Charlie-Sid Speller (34) - as the partnership of Warren Lee (32no) and Chris Willetts (0no) took them to 189-5 and up to fourth in the table above Bromley, who drop to sixth.
Hartley (331-5) still lead the way at the head of affairs after collecting a winning draw against Bexley (198-4).
By the time James Hockley (123) was caught by Harry Furze, Hartley were on 289-4.
That figure rose to 331-5 by the time the overs ran out, with Mehdi Abbas (3-70) enjoying his fair share of success with the ball for Bexley.
But his side fell some way short in reply and although George Wells will be kicking himself for going LBW on 99, Bexley’s team effort from the 55 overs was 198-4, considerably behind what champions Hartley had conjured up.
There was a notable score in the game between Sevenoaks Vine and Beckenham, where the honours were shared as both sides reached 193 from the allotted 45 overs.
Bickley Park (129) are now bottom of the table after a two-wicket reverse at Sibton Park (130-8).
Only Barry Hopper (30no), Phil Browning (23) and Alex Darroch (22) made respectable batting contributions for Bickley Park in what was a largely forgettable innings.
Daniel Magin (4-38) did his best to prevent defeat, but it wasn’t enough to leave Bickley still searching for their first victory of the campaign.
