ALAN Pardew has told News Shopper the Addicks have rejected a bid for one of their players.

Madjid Boughera and Zheng Zhi have both been strongly linked with Premiership moves during the close season, but the manager refused to be drawn when asked to confirm which member of his squad has been the subject of an official approach.

However, he did confirm the offer had been rejected because the difference in valuation between Charlton and the club involved was someway apart.

Pardew said: "We have had an official approach for one of our players.

"I'm not going to say who the player is but the offer did not match what we are after so it has been turned down."

The manager also outlined his intention to only draft in players this summer who would have a realistic chance of making the first team.

He explained: "We've got enough squad players here already so I am only really after people who I feel confident are going to push for a starting place.

"That was the case with Mark Hudson and anyone who does come in can expect to have a realistic chance of being involved this season."

Marcus Bent and Amdy Faye, two survivors from Charlton's Premiership days, have both returned to SE7 from loan spells at Wigan and Glasgow Rangers.

Pardew had indicated throughout last season he had no desire to see either return to The Valley and now he faces the dilemma of having two high-earning players on his books.

"I will sit down with both of them during pre-season and discuss what needs to be done," he added.
