Youngster breaks Konch record
Jonjo Shelvey (left) became Charlton's youngest ever debutant at Oakwell. BARNSLEY CHRONICLE.
Jonjo Shelvey (left) became Charlton's youngest ever debutant at Oakwell. BARNSLEY CHRONICLE.

JONJO Shelvey became Charlton's youngest ever debutant when he made his senior bow for the Addicks against Barnsley last Saturday, aged 16 years and 59 days.

The England youth international eclipsed the record of Paul Konchesky by 34 days.

Shelvey was the 37th player used by manager Alan Pardew this season and the tally rose to 38 when 18-year-old winger Scott Wagstaff made his debut in the second half at Oakwell.

CHARLTON fans excited by the prospect of a potential free Premier League season ticket will start to receive their renewal forms from this weekend.

The Addicks are extending their pioneering offer, whereby supporters who buy a season ticket before August 1 will receive the same seat free of charge in 2009/10 should Charlton gain promotion to the top flight next season.

An adult place for all 23 Championship games is available from £290, while under-18s are £125 and under-11s £99.

Charlton also confirmed the successful Valley Express service from Kent and Sussex next season will continue to run.

FRENCHMAN Therry Racon was recalled from his loan spell at League One outfit Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday after playing eight times for the Seagulls.

The midfielder, who has featured six times for the Addicks this season, could feature against Coventry City at The Valley on Sunday after Brighton failed to reach the play-offs.

Winger Lee Cook, meanwhile, was last week allowed to return to Fulham after playing eight games on loan.

MATT Holland expects to discuss a new Charlton contract in the coming weeks.

The former Irish international and Charlton player of the year said: "It was all put on the back burner until we knew where we were next season.

"I'm sure I'll be sitting down with the manager over the next couple of weeks to see where we go from here. I want to stay."

ALAN Pardew's preparations for next season mean fans will probably get the chance to see some of the club's promising youngsters in the side which takes on Coventry City on Sunday (2pm).

Tickets for Charlton's final home game of the season are on general sale priced £20 for adults, £15 for over-60s and under-21s and £10 for under-18s.

THIS season's emergence of Jonjo Shelvey and Scott Wagstaff, not to mention Grant Basey, Harry Arter and Rob Elliot, has thrown the spotlight on Charlton's academy, and the importance of the fans' contributions to the club's youth set-up via the Valley Gold scheme.

There is still a chance for supporters to join the scheme, which offers greater ticket priority and Superstore discounts, in time to enter the £15,000 prize draw at Sunday's match.

MARK Kinsella will be among the interested spectators at Borehamwood on Thursday night as Watford reserves take on Southampton.

Only a win for the Saints will prevent Charlton from winning the second XI championship after Kinsella's men beat Leyton Orient 3-1 on April 21.

Lloyd Sam, Grant Basey and Ben Godfrey got the goals for the Addicks.

FANS now have six more days in which they can live out their dreams by playing at The Valley, after the club extended its pitch hire period.

Supporters can play at the stadium from May 10 to May 30 from £1,850 and companies can also book The Valley for corporate days out.

Slots start from 9am to 6pm.

TWO more men were last week jailed and handed football banning orders following their part in an assault on Charlton fans.

The sentences brought to 10 the number of men punished since the attack on a train at Sydenham station prior to the Addicks' away match against Crystal Palace last September.

GOALKEEPER Darren Randolph will join a Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for a football tournament in Malaysia next month.

He will play alongside Malaysia, Nigeria and Iraq in the under-23 Intercontinental Cup competition, which takes place from May 12 to May 25.

ALL replica Charlton shirts are now available for £10 as part of a spring sale.

The offer includes all home, away and third tops, goalkeeper shirts, all long, short-sleeved and women's fit versions plus junior shirts.

Buy online at cafc.co.uk or call 020 8858 0391 for more information.

THE final home match of the season for the Charlton women's team last Sunday ended in a 6-0 defeat to Everton with ex-Addicks Fara Williams, Natasha Dowie and Josanne Potter all on target for the Toffees.

Charlton end the campaign with trips to Birmingham City and Everton.

YOUNG female footballers can see if they have what it takes to join Charlton's academy and centre of excellence next season when a series of trials are held at Sparrows Lane on Saturday between 10am and 2pm.

The trials will be overseen by women's technical director and former Addicks winger Paul Mortimer.
