ALAN Pardew has revealed he will be asking Addicks chief executive Peter Varney to move away fans from the Jimmy Seed Stand and make it a home end.

Visiting supporters have always sat behind the goal since the club's historic return to SE7 in 1992, but Pardew claims it is time to reassess where they are put because he fears it gives opposing sides a psychological advantage.

He said: "I have a bit of an issue about that end and I will be having discussions with the chief executive later this year because I don't think away fans should be behind the goal.

"There are two or three clubs in the Premier League, Aston Villa being one of them, who have changed that to their own benefit.

"I don't think it is an advantage for us one iota. I would put them on the side and want to convince the Valley faithful sitting behind that goal would be good for us and good for them."

Charlton's elected fans director Ben Hayes told News Shopper he welcomed Pardew's suggestion in principle, but added there were issues which would need to be resolved first.

Mr Hayes said: "I think it would be good if we had fans behind both goals.

"There are practical problems about putting them in the East Stand because there are issues about segregation and getting opposing fans in and out of the ground.

"Therefore, we would have to put them in the West Stand.

"The police aren't happy about it but I think it would be great."
