Charlton defender Ezri Konsa has joined Championship club Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

The Addicks academy graduate made 86 appearances for the first-team.

Konsa had attracted interest from Premier League duo Everton and Brighton.

The sale has been approved under Roland Duchatelet’s ownership with Australian businessman Andrew Muir expected to complete his takeover soon.

Konsa, 20, said: “Charlton have played such a huge part in my life and I want to thank people like Steve Avory, Joe Francis and Jason Euell for all of the help and guidance they have given me over the years.

“I joined this club when I was an Under-11 and it means a lot to me to be able to say that I came from Charlton’s academy.

“I wish the club and the fans all the success in the future and now I’m looking forward to a new challenge and testing myself in the Championship.”

The England Under-21 international played in midfield and defence last season - and his versatility made him a wanted man. He joins a Brentford side renowned for developing young talent.

Konsa is the second senior player to leave the Valley this summer, following Regan Charles-Cook, who joined Gillingham, out the door.

Charlton are yet to make a summer signing.
