Johnnie Jackson has hailed Jason Pearce ahead of Charlton’s play-off clash with Shrewsbury tonight.
The Addicks assistant caretaker manager says skipper Pearce is the “foundation” of their recent defensive success.
The ex-Wigan defender has starred in the last 10 games, in which Charlton have conceded just five goals.
Jackson, who has been working with the defence, said: “It’s easy this defending lark!
“I’m proud of that record.
“The lads have been brilliant. But when you have someone like Jason Pearce back there with his experience and character, he makes it easy to coach.

“Having that type of character has been invaluable because he takes everything on board and he makes sure all the lads are implementing what I’ve asked.
“He drags the performance out of them and brings the standards up.”
Jackson added: “He’s a top pro and top defender.
“They’ve all done great and I don’t want to say he’s the only one but having him there is the foundation for our solid defensive record so far.”
Pearce, 30, has also weighed in with two goals during the 10-match run under caretaker boss Lee Bowyer, including one at Shrewsbury last month.
Tonight the Addicks face Shrewsbury again in the play-off semi-final first leg and Jackson wants the Valley “rocking”.
He said: “When the Valley gets rocking, it can really get rocking and be a hard place for sides to come.
“So it needs to be that way on Thursday night, it will be a massive advantage if it is.”
