Lee Bowyer has become Charlton’s most successful manager after 10 games.

Even if they lose to Rochdale on Saturday in his 10th match, it won’t matter as the caretaker boss has already accumulated 19 points.

Bowyer, who has guided the Addicks to sixth, has bettered the previous record set by Jimmy Seed in 1933.

He told News Shopper: “Someone mentioned it but it’s not about what I do. Like I said when I first came in, it’s about the club getting back into the Championship and back into the Premier League.

“I’ve had a lot of help. Everyone has pulled together, the club’s in a good place, the team’s in a good place, the fans are happy.

“So when you have a situation like that where everyone is pulling in the right direction, then it’s all good for everybody.

“The fans again on Saturday [against Blackburn] were outstanding. At times, they just seemed to know when to sing and when not to sing.

“When they felt like we were under some pressure, they pulled together and helped us through, which I said we would need.

“We’re going to still need it on Thursday [in the play-off semi-final against Shrewsbury]. We’re going to need everyone to come and get behind the team because it’s tough. When you have that home support, it makes a massive difference.”

Charlton have all but made the play-offs due to their superior goal difference over Plymouth.

They will finish either sixth or fifth depending on Scunthorpe’s result against Bradford on the final day of the season.

In Bowyer’s first press conference as caretaker manager in March, he said seven wins from 10 games would secure a top-six finish.

And they will achieve that total if they beat Rochdale.

Bowyed added: “I never doubted the players. Never once did I say we’d struggle to get into the play-offs.

“I knew what they were capable of and they've shown everyone. We have to maintain that standard for the remaining games.”
