Jake Forster-Caskey has urged Charlton fans to stick with the players.

The Addicks are in the play-off places on goal difference with five games to go.

They failed to move three points clear of seventh-placed Portsmouth after losing to relegation-threatened AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The wasted opportunity frustrated supporters as they watched their side fail to register a shot on target at Kingsmeadow. Now, Forster-Caskey wants the Valley faithful to get behind the team when hosting promotion rivals Scunthorpe tomorrow.

The Charlton midfielder said: “It hurt us as much as it hurt everyone else because we’re desperate to get in the play-offs.

“It’s still in our hands so stick with us and we’ve got a massive game on Saturday. We’ve got to get back up, work hard and hopefully we’ll have a good crowd.

“We need some big performances because we’ve got some top sides to play. Like I said, stick with us because we’ve still got a good chance [of promotion].”

Lee Bowyer has a 100 per cent home record as caretaker manager. He has overseen wins against top-six hopefuls Plymouth and Rotherham.

The Valley has been rocking since Bowyer, assisted by club captain Johnnie Jackson, took over last month.

Forster-Caskey, who is thriving in a new deep-lying midfield role, added: “The fans have been brilliant to me and the players this season. We need them now.

“They're going to be massive for us because the last few times we’ve played at home, they've been brilliant.

“It’s definitely pushed us on. Stick with us, get behind us and we’ll get in there [play-offs].”

Scunthorpe is the start of a tricky run-in for Charlton, who face top-two-chasing Shrewsbury and Blackburn with Portsmouth sandwiched inbetween before travelling to Rochdale on the final day of the season.

Only two points separate fifth from ninth in the race for the play-offs.

An unfazed Forster-Caskey said: “It is tight. We’d rather it be in our hands which it is. We know what we’ve got to do.

“The fans will be behind us and hopefully we can push all as one because if we get ourselves in there, then we’ve got a really good chance.

“To go up you've got to beat the best teams anyway, so we’re looking forward to it.”
