Charlton defender Harry Lennon has declared himself fit to start at Wigan on Friday evening.

Lennon, 23, made his first league appearance in 14 months when he came on at half-time in the 3-1 defeat to Southend.

A groin injury had plagued the Addicks academy graduate for over a year, but he returned to first-team training last month.

Charlton have been decimated by injuries this season - with three of their first-choice back four out - and Lennon insists he’s ready to step in against league leaders Wigan.

He told News Shopper: “Yeah I think it’s done me well getting another 45 minutes, I’ve had a few games now.

“I’ve been training hard for about four or five weeks so if I’m called upon, I’ll be ready.

“We’ve got players coming back now, but I thought I did pretty well against Southend, considering it was my first league game back.

“So hopefully I’ve shown the manager half of what I can do and get a starting place in the team.

“It’s been a tough year for me and I’m happy to start getting match fit now and hopefully I can push on and get a starting place.”

Lennon has made just three senior appearances since recovering from injury.

And he paid tribute to Charlton manager Karl Robinson, who always kept in touch during his lengthy absence.

Lennon added: “He has a bubbly personality. He’s always talking to you.

“You get some managers that when you're injured they forget about you, but he’s been good.

“He always talked to me and made me feel part of the team.”
