A lacklustre Charlton side were beaten 1-0 by Portsmouth on their 25th anniversary back at the Valley.

Josh Magennis’ second-half own goal gave Pompey a deserved win.

Ben Amos saved a Brett Pitman penalty to stop the visitors from doubling their lead, but it was all in vain.

Here is how News Shopper rated Charlton’s players…

Ben Amos - 8 - Claimed his crosses with confidence, like he has been doing in recent months. Could not do anything about the goal. Brilliant save to deny Pitman from 12 yards.

Chris Solly - 6 - Captaining the side on this special day, Solly led by example and defended well. Very harshly penalised for the penalty.

Ezri Konsa - 6 - Never looked troubled and was confident on the ball.

Naby Sarr - 8 - His cross-field passes are magical. Did not put a foot wrong. Broke up and started Charlton attacks. Man of the match.

Jay Dasilva - 7 - He was threatening down the left in the first-half but seemed to be more reserved after the break.

Jake Forster-Caskey - 5 - The game passed Forster-Caskey by at times - he definitely missed having Ahmed Kashi alongside him.

Joe Aribo - 7 - He won the ball back so many times but was sloppy in possession.

Mark Marshall - 4 - Didn't make use of the ball despite having so much of it. His crossing was also off today.

Billy Clarke - 5 - Failed to have an impact in the final third - he’ll take time to rediscover his best form after just returning from injury.

Ricky Holmes - 5 - He wasn't at his best today - and was booked after committing too many fouls.

Josh Magennis - 5 - His hold-up play was poor. Pompey’s two centre-halves didn't give him a sniff in front of goal.
