Karl Robinson believes Charlton midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey is back on track after a “difficult” two years.

Forster-Caskey, 23, was a regular starter for Brighton and England Under-21s up until 2015.

Disappointing loan moves to MK Dons and Rotherham followed after finding first-team opportunities limited at the Amex Stadium.

But since signing for Charlton in January, Forster-Caskey has rediscovered his best form, scoring five goals in the Addicks’ strong start to the season.

His brace ensured Charlton came from behind to beat Rochdale 2-1 at the Valley on Tuesday evening.

Robinson, who has always wanted Forster-Caskey to add goals to his game, said: “I’m happy with Jake’s goals on Tuesday and the one at Bradford, they’re almost striker goals, being in the right place at the right time.

“I remember when I worked with Jake [at MK Dons] two years ago, he’d wait on the edge of the box for the ball to come out to him, now he's going in there and it’s dropping to him and he’s finishing.

“Jake’s talent is unreal, his ball-striking is exceptional. He’s always going to have that. The goals he scored in the six-yard box, he would never have scored in his career and now he’s starting to get them.

“He’s very astute in his development. He’s only 23 years old so it shows you how young he is.

“He’s got a long, long career ahead of him and Charlton could be the real foundations for him.

“He’s had a difficult two years but he’s found a home here. The fans like him because he's scoring goals, and the fans will like you because you run around and that’s the most important thing.”
