Kieran Agard’s 91st-minute penalty broke Charlton hearts as they drew 2-2 with MK Dons.

Josh Magennis put Karl Robinson’s men in front before Agard levelled for the Dons in the second-half.

It looked as though Scott Goldbourne’s own goal three minutes from time had given the Addicks a deserved three points.

However, Ahmed Kashi’s foul on Peter Pawlett in the box presented Agard with the chance to complete his brace, which he took.

The result sees Charlton drop to fifth in League One.

Robinson made three changes to the side that beat AFC Wimbledon three weeks ago with Naby Sarr and Ben Reeves coming in for crocked duo Patrick Bauer and Billy Clarke.

Mark Marshall made his first league start for the Addicks replacing Tariqe Fosu, who was only fit enough for a place on the bench.

The Addicks started brightly and took the lead in the sixth minute thanks to Magennis’ fifth goal of the season.

The big man, who ended his six-game scoring drought, headed home Jake Forster-Caskey’s corner.

Robinson, who was facing his old club for the fifth time since leaving 13 months ago, had his team pressing high up the pitch which forced errors from the Dons defence. And their frustration showed when Ed Upson was booked for a late tackle on former Dons star Reeves.

Charlton were inches away from doubling their lead after a slick counter-attack ended with Reeves teeing up Forster-Caskey, whose deflected shot bounced off the post.

And Forster-Caskey had an even better chance moments later as he directed his close-range header over the bar following Ezri Konsa’s knock-down.

Charlton outplayed MK Dons in an extremely one-sided first-half and restricted the visitors to speculative efforts.

There was controversy just before the break when George Williams rugby tackled Ricky Holmes to the ground and appeared to put his hands on the winger’s face. After deliberating with his linesman, referee Andy Woolmer only showed a yellow card to the full-back.

Charlton started to second-half in the same fashion as the first. Magennis’ clever ball put Marshall through on goal, but the winger’s shot was saved by Lee Nicholls.

And just like that, against the run of play, MK Dons were level when substitute Agard headed in Goldbourne's cross on 63 minutes.

And Konsa’s blushes were spared just two minutes later after Chucks Aneke dispossessed him to go one-on-one with Amos, but blazed his shot wide.

Charlton failed to regain their rhythm following the first equaliser.

Naby Sarr spurned another opportunity for Charlton in the 82nd minute when Nicholls comfortably held his tame volley.

And the Addicks got the luck they deserved in the 87th minute when Goldbourne turned Tariqe Fosu’s cross-shot into his own net.

But Agard’s late penalty forced Charlton to settle for the draw.
