Charlton boss Karl Robinson has played down Mark Marshall’s latest injury.

Marshall, 30, picked up a thigh problem in training and missed the Addicks’ 1-0 win over Doncaster today.

But Robinson says Marshall, who only just recovered from a serious knee injury, could start against Oxford on Tuesday.

He said: “Yesterday, in training he came inside and flicked a ball round the corner and he felt a spasm in his thigh. If we had a few games to go until the end of the season we would've selected him.

“But we’ve worked so hard to get him up to speed - so what’s the point of risking him for one game?

“He might be available to start on Tuesday. We’ll see how he progresses over the next 48 hours. But if he doesn't then he’ll certainly be fit for Saturday.

“We've been without him all season, so it’s not like we've needed him. It’s nice to have him back for my selection problems.

“It’s just a very small injury and I’m not going to waste the work our physios have done to get him to the level he is at.”

Tariqe Fosu’s ninth-minute goal helped Charlton to victory against a resilient Doncaster side.

The Addicks defended valiantly in the second-half to thwart the visitors.

And Robinson was pleased with his team’s mentality.

He added: “It was hard. Sometimes people look at where they are in the league and listen, they beat Southend 4-1 last weekend.

“So I knew gong into the game some people would have a lack of respect for the opposition. We knew they were going to make it difficult.

“I was pleased with the players - we showed a different side to our mentality - everyone knows how I want my teams to play with the fluidity and attacking nature.

“But when it’s not there all fans ask for is desire and application to the shirt - and I think we did that in abundance today.”
