A Tariqe Fosu hat-trick gave Charlton a first win in five games as they beat Fleetwood 3-1 at Highbury Stadium.

The winger’s three goals have lifted the Addicks back into the play-off places.

Fosu’s opener was cancelled out by Bobby Grant, whose strike ensured the score was level at the break.

But two more goals in the second-half from Fosu ended the contest.

Karl Robinson made one change from the side that drew at Walsall on Tuesday, with Naby Sarr replacing the injured Solly. Prior to today, January 2016 was the last time the French defender’s started for the Addicks.

Charlton opened the scoring thanks to Fosu’s first goal of the afternoon. Ricky Holmes’ teasing cross was headed in by the former Reading winger in the 13th minute.

Fosu could have grabbed another just moments later, but his shot flew just inches over the bar.

Fleetwood equalised through Grant on 25 minutes when his first-time, low drive beat Ben Amos from 15 yards.

And Charlton had to weather a storm from the hosts as Amos just did enough to divert Ameri’i Bell’s effort away from goal.

The Addicks went close to regaining their lead through Fosu, before Holmes’ 25-yard strike was excellently saved by Fleetwood goalkeeper Alex Cairns.

Robinson’s men didn't let their missed opportunities affect them as Fosu put the Londoners back in front in emphatic style in the 39th minute.

The 21-year-old controlled Holmes’ cross, bamboozled Fleetwood’s defenders with a couple of stopovers and fired past Cairns.

Sarr could have given his side further breathing space before the break, but saw his goal-bound header blocked by Ashley Eastham.

Charlton suffered an injury blow early in the second-half as Billy Clarke hobbled off. Mark Marshall replaced the midfielder for his Addicks debut.

In a slow start to the second-half, Jordy Hiwula failed to hit the target when given time and space in the box.

Fosu bagged his first career hat-trick after running half the length of the pitch to slot the ball under Cairns in the 71st minute.

Fleetwood failed to come up with any kind of response and Charlton comfortably controlled the rest of the game.
