Charlton Under-23s boss Jason Euell hopes his side can keep in-form Liverpool winger Harry Wilson quiet tonight.

The Addicks take on Liverpool in the Premier League Cup at the Valley.

The Reds are favourites heading into the contest with highly-rated Wales internationals Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn expected to play.

Wilson, who made his Liverpool first-team bow last season, netted a hat-trick against Spurs last week.

And when asked if Charlton have earmarked the 20-year-old as Liverpool’s dangerman, Euell said: “No, not really.

“He’s a player who’s on a good scoring streak at the moment - he got his hat-trick last week against Spurs and two against West Ham.

“They've started really well and as a forward you want to get on the scoresheet and get an opportunity of trying to break into that first-team squad.

“It’s going to be another challenge for us. But a good test as well. We play a lot of Category 2 teams, and to play a Category 1 team in this competition is something unfamiliar to us but we’re ready for it.”

Euell is looking forward to competing against a Liverpool side who have started the season in fine form.

He added: “Liverpool have started their league campaign well, six [wins] out of six.

“Sometimes people get carried away because of the club and stature that all of their players are going to be good or better than a Charlton League One Category 2 club.

“But that doesn't always seem to be the case. So whatever team they put out, we’ve got to be prepared among ourselves and be ready for that challenge.”
