Charlton manager Karl Robinson says he is thankful for the Charlton fans and would love to stay at the club for a long time.

Robinson is the seventh and longest-serving Charlton manager under the ownership of Roland Duchatelet.

Supporters have been protesting against Duchatelet over the years, with his frequent changing of managers being one of them, and Robinson is finally bringing some stability to the club.

Robinson said. “Hopefully we are given time to maintain this football club. I would love nothing more than to be here for long period of time. I am not a flyby like manager.

“I am not someone of a personal gain. I am someone for longevity. I just want to make people proud of the team they support and hopefully we can do that.”

The Addicks were beaten 3-0 by Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night and Robinson says the loss will “take a long time” to get out of his system. Despite the loss, Charlton are third and travel to rivals Gillingham this Saturday who have lost five of their opening seven games.

Robinson added: “What happened on Tuesday night is something that will live with me for a long, long time, something that I honestly did not expect, it took me back a little bit.”

The 37-year-old also stated that he is a “more modest” person and has improved as a manager since he left Milton Keynes Dons and moved to south east London.

He said: “I am a better manager than I was then [at MK Dons]. If I was this position now, at MK Dons, imagine where I could have taken them. I left them a very good team, very competitive. I think they said they are going to win the league this year, so that just shows their aspirations.

“But, at Charlton, I am a more rounded person, a humbler person. I feel like am in a place where family and work have come together in a very, very good place. I am very thankful, especially to the people that support this club, they don’t realise how much it means to my family that they can appreciate what we are trying to do.

“I am going to make so many mistakes, I am never going to come to you and say I’m not. I am never going to lie to the fans. The press conferences that we do are quite open and honest about that.

“I am going to make honest makes and I will learn from they always. I am only 37 years old. We all make mistakes every single day in our working life. But, if you can learn from them, you gain more respect from that.
