Ben Reeves is set to miss Charlton’s next two home games against Southend and Wigan.

Reeves, 25, was without a club during pre-season after leaving MK Dons in May.

He signed for Charlton just two days before the start of the season, but has only featured in two cup games for the Addicks.

Robinson said: “I’d expect him to cope with the demands of at least 45 minutes by a week on Saturday. The difference of Crawley and Exeter, and no disrespect to them, to going up against Southend, Wigan and a local derby against Gillingham is something that is very intense.

“I’d like to think he will be in the squad by a week on Saturday. And then we’ll start looking to do another intense programme at the back-end of next week not having a midweek game.

“I don't make any apologies for putting him through the mire, he should've been here six weeks earlier and he would've been fine.”

Charlton offered Reeves a deal in May, but the playmaker wanted to review his options.

The Northern Ireland international rejected Bolton and had the chance to play in Spain.

He impressed against Crawley in the Checkatrade Trophy last month, scoring his first Addicks goal.

Robinson, who worked with Reeves at MK Dons, added: “He trained yesterday, but he’s not fully fit. He’s back outside and running today, running tomorrow and hopefully on Saturday.

“We’ve just got to get him up to that speed - there’s no muscular endurance in him yet.

“The tight calf that he had was through fatigue. He’s passed the running tests with flying colours but the longevity of the game sometimes puts you close to muscle fatigue.

“It was only a grade one that he had but it’s because he wasn't at a level that the rest of the players were that we demand. We’ve got to make sure we’re patient with him.

“We’ve got the likes of him, Mark Marshall, Harry Lennon and Lewis Page to come back into the group. It will make us so much better.”
