Oldham boss John Sheridan blamed Chris Solly for Ousmane Fane’s red card in his side’s 4-3 defeat to Charlton - and slammed the performance of referee Ross Joyce.

Joyce booked nine players in Saturday’s seven-goal thriller, and showed a second yellow card to Fane for a studs-up challenge on Addicks defender Solly in the 54th minute.

The dismissal came just three minutes after Oldham had equalised to make it 2-2.

Charlton inflicted a fifth successive league defeat on the Latics, who remain in the relegation zone, while the Addicks move up to third in League One.

And Sheridan was not happy with Joyce or Solly.

He said: “It’s comical. First of all, we should've had a penalty in the first five minutes for a foul on Eoin Doyle, all day long.

“I don’t think there was a bad tackle in the game. Ousmane has won the ball cleanly and it’s a downer for us, as we were on top with the momentum after Doyle’s equaliser.

“The referee has ruined the game for me. The right-back [Chris Solly] got Kean Bryan booked early on and there was nothing wrong with him.

“He then got Ousmane sent off when there was nothing wrong with him. The referee was booking people just to make up for his mistakes. It’s ridiculous.

“His record for bookings is ridiculous. It wasn't a sending off and it has totally ruined the game for us as I firmly believe we would have gone on to win.”
