Charlton boss Karl Robinson has played down a move for free agent Josh Wright.

Wright agreed to terminate his contract with Gillingham earlier today, and is free to sign for any club.

Robinson has praised the midfielder in the past, but admits there is no room in his squad for the former Charlton trainee.

The Addicks have Ahmed Kashi, Jake Forster-Caskey, Andrew Crofts and Joe Aribo vying for a starting berth in midfield.

Speaking after the Addicks’ 2-0 win over Crawley in the Checkatrade Trophy, he told News Shopper: “Well, who would he replace in this team right now? He’s certainly a player everyone will know and I’ve had a keen eye on him for a long period of time.

“I knew a compromise was happening [with Gillingham].

“We have to have room in our squad. That’s always been the message - from the top above me. We can’t make room.

“If the room was made, we’d have to do business somewhere. But if not, no room.”
