Charlton boss Karl Robinson wants to sign a striker and winger before the transfer window shuts.

The Addicks are short up front with Josh Magennis and Lee Novak the club’s only senior forwards.

Magennis netted his first goal of the season in the 4-1 win over Northampton as midfielders Ricky Holmes and Jake Forster-Caskey chipped in.

When asked if Robinson was still looking to bring in a striker, he told News Shopper: “Yes, maybe a wide player and a striker.

“I’ve just said to somebody, sometimes you’re trying to do business with the clubs that aren't willing to do business.

“It’s not that we can afford or what we can spend, there are two or three that I may want. I’ve had the same situation with a player a few years ago where he wanted to go to a competitor and I stopped it. And maybe it’s coming around and biting me on the bum.”

Robinson says Charlton might have to put their faith in the club’s youngsters if he fails to land his remaining transfer targets.

The Liverpuldian has called on Reeco Hackett-Fairchild and Karlan Ahearne-Grant from the bench this season.

Robinson added: “Sometimes you’ve just got to be patient, and if it doesn't happen, listen, we’ll just rely on our young players.

“I think there is honesty in the young players and that’s what I like. Young Reeco might get his chance sooner than we think.

“But if Josh keeps scoring goals, he signed a new contract which gives him tremendous confidence.

“When I first walked in, the board told me they wanted to re-sign [contracts] to certain players and they’ve gone and done that. It shows a sign of us moving forward.”
