Charlton have not made a move for Maidenhead United striker Dave Tarpey, News Shopper understands.

Tarpey, 29, has been in fine goalscoring form for the newly-promoted National League side, netting seven times in four games.

Addicks boss Karl Robinson reportedly watched the prolific striker net four goals against Fylde on Tuesday evening.

And a national newspaper report claimed Charlton and Gillingham were keen on the Magpies’ star man.

But Tarpey, who scored 46 goals as Maidenhead won the National League South title last season, plans to see out his contract, which ends next summer.

A Maidenhead United spokesman said: “We can’t confirm whether he [Robinson] was at our game on Tuesday.

“Dave Tarpey is committed to Maidenhead United and wants to stay with us this season.

“We’ve had no contact from Charlton about him as far as we’re concerned.”

Charlton want to sign another striker to rival Josh Magennis and Lee Novak before the transfer window shuts.

On Thursday, Robinson said a deal to bring a frontman to the Valley was not close.

Previously, Charlton have shown interest in Barnet striker John Akinde, however, the Bees’ asking price looks likely to be too much for an unproven League One number nine.

On the Addicks’ striker search, Robinson said: “What's been bandied about, a million pounds here, a million pounds there, that will certainly not be us. I can one hundred per cent guarantee that.”
