Bolton chairman Ken Anderson says “expensive” Ben Amos needed more game-time.

Amos, who is Bolton’s highest earner, joined Charlton on a season-long loan last Saturday.

He will be the Addicks’ first-choice goalkeeper for the 2017/18 season.

Anderson said: “It was a shame that we had to loan Ben Amos out, but unfortunately, as our most expensive player, it made prudent financial sense, even though the loan fee only goes a short way to covering his costs.

“With three other keepers in the squad, Ben’s going makes football sense as well as it frees up another much-needed squad place.

“We all wish Ben well for the season and in my opinion, it's important that he gets game-time this season.”

Amos signed a four-year deal with Bolton in 2015, and his debut season ended in relegation to League One.

A disappointing loan spell with Cardiff followed, but now, he will look to rediscover his form at the Valley.
