Charlton have several “niggling injuries” to contend with before Saturday’s clash with Coventry City.

The Addicks will be desperate to end their long wait for a league victory against bottom-placed Coventry at the Valley.

But assistant boss Kevin Nugent revealed a few players were in a race to regain full fitness before the League One clash.

He said: “It’s a big game. We’re still quite early in the season but it is a big game, as they all are, and it’s one that we are really looking forward to.

“Coventry have changed their manager recently, they’ve changed their shape around and they’ve just got their first win.

“It’s going to be tough, we know that. We’ve got a few players with some little, niggling injuries but hopefully, come Saturday, we’ll be strong enough to get the three points.”

In their last outing – on October 1 – Charlton were beaten 1-0 by Rochdale as their winless league run extended to seven games.

Nugent, who worked alongside Russell Slade at Leyton Orient for four years, added: “We’ve been out on the training ground and have been getting some really good work in.

“The break has given us a lot of time, certainly as a coaching staff and management team, to really have a look and think about what we can do to turn what were draws, that have now gone the wrong way, into wins and three points.

“We need to make ourselves hard to beat again and also be a bit more creative - and have that little bit extra - in the final third of the pitch.”
