Charlton midfielder Ahmed Kashi is undergoing rehab in France in an attempt to finally beat his long-term Achilles problem.

The talented Algerian only played 13 games for the Addicks last season and was sidelined from October to April.

More complications followed meaning the 27-year-old is still a long way off from featuring for the club.

Boss Russell Slade revealed Kashi is making “slow progress” after undergoing conservative rehab in Paris.

“Kashi is doing his rebab in Paris at the minute. He’s making progress, but it’s slow progress. It hasn’t been miraculous,” Slade told fans.

“He did join us in pre-season but he was having the same problems as before with the Achilles so he went to see a specialist in France.

“He’s having conservative rehab which means they’re not doing any surgery at this stage.

“But that doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods – he may ultimately need surgery but he’s building up. Our physio went out to see him and came back yesterday.

“We got an update and he’s doing fine and we will know more in a couple of weeks.”

Portuguese defender Jorge Teixeira has also been unable to feature for the South Londoners so far this term after suffering a hamstring injury earlier in the summer.

But a return to action is close with the former Standard Liege star set to play for the U21 side next week.

Slade added: “Tex is back in, he’s training now. We’re hopeful that he will get a game next Monday for the U21s.

“But because he’s missed so much of pre-season, he’s so well down on general fitness and will probably need a few games before he features.”

Ex-France U20 midfielder El-Hadji Ba is back training – although not with the first-team squad.

Former Cardiff City boss Slade says he needs to find out whether Ba still has the “desire and hunger” to play for Charlton.

The 55-year-old explained: “Ba is back in training now, he’s not training with the first-team but with the U21s at this moment in time.

“He’s had a few problems injury-wise and was poorly as well. We will take our time and see whether he’s still got that desire and hunger to play for the football club.”
