Jorge Teixeira suffered heartbreak on transfer deadline day as his loan move to Zulte Waregem fell through.
The Portuguese defender, one of Charlton’s top earners, was expected to leave in the summer following relegation to League One.
There was a firm offer from Zulte Waregem to take the 30-year-old player on loan on Wednesday.

However, the move failed to materialise following the signing of Juventus man Luca Marrone the day before.
And with a defender already brought in, plus Teixeira’s hefty salary, the Jupiler Pro League side decided against a late transfer.
The former Standard Liege rock could have been playing alongside Charlton striker Igor Vetokele, who joined Zulte Waregem on loan in June.
But, it looks as though Teixeira will have to fight his way into Addicks boss Russell Slade’s plans for the League One season.
