Charlton youngsters Ademola Lookman and Ezri Konsa have the potential to play at the highest level, according to Jason Pearce.

Lookman, 18, has developed into one of Charlton’s most creative and exciting players since breaking into the first-team last season.

And defender Konsa has already made five appearances for the Addicks this term after impressing Russell Slade in pre-season.

Pearce says the teenage duo are “great prospects” and insists they could play in the Premier League one day.

When asked by News Shopper about the players, Pearce said: “Ade and Ezri are two great prospects who I believe, if they carry on the way they’re going, will play at the highest level.

“Hopefully we can keep hold of them because they are good players and good prospects. I’ve been massively impressed by them.

“I said when I came [to Charlton] that the young lads here have been the best group I’ve ever seen – it’s been really positive.”

He added: “I try to talk to Ezri because I just want to help him. I’ve played a lot of games now and he looks a great prospect.

“As long as he keeps his feet on the ground and keeps improving he’ll go all the way as well.”

Pearce was speaking after Charlton snatched a late point against Bolton thanks to Lookman’s 90th-minute strike.

The former Wigan star, who signed for the South Londoners earlier in the month, felt Slade’s side were the better team for large parts of the game.

He said: “We knew Bolton were coming here in a lot of form. They’re a big, tough, physical team so the gaffer gave us a game-plan and it worked.

“I thought we were the better team. It’s disappointing that from their one shot on target they scored but I thought the lads showed great character to get the ball down and play and we dominated large parts of the game.

“Bolton defended well to be fair, they’re a tough team with good players.

“But we kept going and plugging away and eventually it was a little bit of magic from Ademola that got us the equaliser and then I thought we could have nicked it in injury-time.”

Pearce, 28, experienced League One promotion with the Latics last season, but does the centre-back believe Charlton are capable of similar success?

“Yeah, 100 per cent I do. It’s an old cliché but we need to take each game as it comes,” he added.
