Russell Slade provided an update on Johnnie Jackson after the Charlton skipper limped off during the 1-1 draw with Bolton on Saturday.

The 34-year-old midfielder has complained about tight hamstrings more than once already this season and only last 24 minutes against Bolton.

Slade said that while the injury is not a strain, Jackson’s removal was a blow.

“It’s a little bit of a blow,” the former Cardiff City and Leyton Orient boss said. “He had a little bit of a tightening of the hamstring.

“It’s not a strain but it’s tightened up and the medical department warned us that maybe after 60 or 70 minutes it would be something we might need to look at.

“But we didn’t think it would be after 20 minutes.”

Jackson’s injury forced young defender Ezri Konsa to move to right-back and Chris Solly to play in midfield.

Slade continued: “Jacko signalled that he had a very tight hamstring so we made changes and to be fair the response from players like Konsa and Solly was terrific.

“We dealt with the problem really well and it didn’t really affect us which is a good sign I feel.”
