Russell Slade reiterated his hope to keep hold of Ademola Lookman during the summer transfer window after Charlton’s 1-1 draw with Bolton.

The 18-year-old forward scored a stunning late goal to earn a point at the Valley after Phil Parkinson’s Bolton had taken the lead.

And when asked by News Shopper whether he could reassure Addicks fans that Lookman will be staying in SE7, Slade said: “We don’t want to lose Ade, that’s for sure.

“We feel he’s got a huge part to play and as I’m sat here talking to you now, he will be with us.”

Nicky Ajose, who opened his account for the club with a brace last weekend, was denied by Mark Howard on 12 minutes after good work from Ricky Holmes.

Both side had chances before the break – Jason Pearce headed wide before David Wheater saw an effort cleared off the line by Chris Solly.

Bolton took the lead shortly after the interval when Gary Madine tapped home Liam Trotter’s cross for his third goal of the season.

But Charlton finally got their rewards when second-half substitute Lookman beat Howard with a quality long-range strike in the 90th minute.

Slade, 55, praised the impact of Lookman, saying: “That’s the best impact he’s made so far.

News Shopper:

“We all saw a sharper Ademola than previously which is a reflection on his work in training. He’s getting better, he was moving it about quicker.

“I was really pleased with his impact and he’s dragged us back into the game there.”

Despite trailing League One leaders Bolton, the South Londoners kept applying pressure and Slade felt his side dominated the last 45 minutes.

He said: “Bolton are a settled side. Eight of those played in the Championship last season, from our point of view we’re still building and we have new partnerships in most areas of the pitch.

“I feel we’re getting better in terms of our football and our understanding. We took control in the second period and Bolton were right up against it at the end there.”
