Neil Smith praised the work ethic of Tobi Sho-Silva after the forward’s brace helped Bromley beat Gateshead.
High-flying Gateshead took an early lead through James Bolton, but Sho-Silva hit back with two quick goals.
Joe Anderson then found the net to provide the Ravens with a 3-1 lead at half-time.
Despite Sho-Silva being sent off for a second yellow card, and Gateshead scoring a penalty on 81 minutes, Bromley held on for their first league win of the season.
Smith told the official website: “It was a bit nervy at the end after losing Tobi.
“We’ve got a young side that is going to make mistakes. They’re learning from them. We didn’t want to learn the hard way but Tobi has.
“I don’t want to take the gloss off his goals but he has learned the hard way.”
Sho-Silva, 21, spent three years at Charlton before being released by the League One club in the summer.
The Thamesmead-born star has impressed for the Ravens and Smith insisted he is a player with potential.
“It’s all about confidence with Tobi,” Smith said.
“He’s a young boy and we can see the potential in him, which is why we brought him in.
“He’s a hard worker, he’s the last one off the training pitch. He just keeps going and as a young lad that’s a fantastic attitude to have.”
Bromley lost their first three National League games but have picked up four points from their last two fixtures.
Smith felt his side showed character after going behind to Gateshead and deserved the three points.
He added: “It was brilliant. We’ve been saying for a while that we haven’t had the luck.
“We showed character after going a goal down and we deserved that win. The players have really worked their socks off over the last few weeks.”
Bromley travel to Guiseley on Saturday and welcome Eastleigh to Hayes Lane on Bank Holiday Monday. For tickets visit bromleyfc.tv/.
