Charlton boss Russell Slade has “two or three” injury concerns ahead of the Addicks’ trip to Walsall on Saturday.

The 55-year-old refused to name the players who may struggle to feature at the Bescot Stadium.

However, Ricky Holmes complained about a swollen ankle after Tuesday’s victory over Shrewsbury and Johnnie Jackson told News Shopper he had a tight hamstring before coming off.

Slade said: “We have one or two [concerns]. We are going to have to see how we come out of that today before we make team selection and squad selection decisions for Saturday.

“I’m not picking out individuals, we’ve got a few who we have had the medical department have a look out before I’ve come to see you this morning.

“We have two or three issues before Saturday.”

Long-term absentee Patrick Bauer once again featured on Charlton’s bench on Tuesday evening.

Slade is adamant the German defender would do the job if required on Saturday.

News Shopper:

He added: “I’m sure he would love a game and in some form of another he will get some football over the next five days, whether it’s with the first-team or a youth team.

“He’s in there ready and knows what’s going on – if we did have to throw Patrick on I’m sure he would give a good account of himself.

“He would certainly try his very best as he’s worked hard to get to the level he’s at now.”

Walsall have endured a mixed start to the season and Slade insisted the fixture would pose challenges for his side.

“I always think Walsall is a difficult place to go,” he said. “It’s a tough place, they’re always strong at home.

“I find them a difficult one to crack at home.”
