Liverpool are prepared to strike a deal with former boss Brendan Rodgers over a loan switch deal for Joe Gomez, reports say.

Rodgers, who was appointed manager of Scottish champions Celtic last month, is already hoping to bolster his squad for next season.

It is believed the 43-year-old has identified Gomez as a target and hopes to secure the teenager’s services on a season-long loan deal.

According to SunSport, Liverpool view Gomez as a long-term asset but are ready to offload the former Charlton man on loan next year.

Having burst onto the scene in Anfield, the 19-year-old suffered a season-ending injury while on international duty with England U21s.

However, he has recovered from the devastating setback and is understood to be on course to start his pre-season training next month.

Jurgen Klopp is said to to rate the Catford-born star very highly but understands a stint with Celtic may benefit his progression.

Charlton academy product Gomez only played 21 league games for the Addicks but immediately attracted attention from Premier League clubs.

And he was snapped up by Liverpool in the summer of 2015 for a reported fee of £3.5m.
