Burnley boss Sean Dyche said protesting Charlton fans were “respectful” after his side were crowned Championship champions at the Valley today.

Having already sealed promotion to the Premier League last week, Burnley ran out 3-0 winners to finish their season in style.

Sam Vokes gave the visitors a half-time lead before goals from George Boyd and Andre Gray rounded off a dire season for Charlton.

Addicks supporters, unhappy with the way Roland Duchatelet is running the club, disrupted the game on several occasions with smoke bombs and objects thrown on to the pitch.

However, Dyche insisted the home fans were respectful to his club’s cause.

He said: “I’ve got to be honest, I thought they were pretty respectful to the game on the whole because I believe there’s been a few worse times this season.

“It’s their club and their challenge for what they think is right and wrong.

“I think they were generally respectful of the fact that we came down here and had a job to do and wanted to win the title.

“Fair play to them for that side of things. They left us pretty much alone and let us get on with it.”

Burnley’s win in SE7 extended their unbeaten league run to 23 games, and Dyche admitted it meant a lot to claim the title.

The 44-year-old said: “It means a lot. We went up two years and we couldn’t quite catch Leicester, although we had a good try.

“The main job is to get promoted but once you’ve done that you want to win it.

“We made it clear at the beginning of the season that that was our intention.

“We haven’t blinked during it, people made a lot of our up-and-down run but I said we’re playing well and the wins will come, and they have done.”
