A Charlton steward has praised protesting fans ahead of the Addicks' final game of the season against Burnley.

The demonstrations are set to continue on Saturday in an effort to oust unpopular owner Roland Duchatelet.

Christopher Columb, 20, has been working at the Valley as a steward for two months and was pitchside for the home defeat to Brighton.

He told News Shopper: “We’re prepped well and are told to expect disruptions.

“I’m expecting some fans to try and get on to the pitch and I know there will be loads of stuff thrown from the stands as well.”

The Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet (CARD) released a statement earlier in the week saying they had no intention of getting the Burnley game abandoned.

Blackpool supporters organised a pitch invasion during their final match of the season last year to show their frustration towards chairman Karl Oyston.

Columb, a previous Charlton season-ticket holder, added: “I don't normally prepare for stuff like that.

“I go to my supervisors and get told what I'm doing then get ready for what's going to happen.

“We don't find out where we’ll be placed in the ground until a few hours before kick-off.

“Even though I’m working as a steward, I’m still with the fans and I support what they’re doing - Duchatelet needs to go.”

Previous home games were temporarily stopped after stress balls, balloons and inflatable balls were thrown on to the pitch by protesting supporters.
