Johann Berg Gudmundsson is putting talks about his future at Charlton on hold until after the Euro 2016 championship.

The Iceland winger signed a new four-year deal with Charlton last July but is expected to be the subject of substantial interest this summer.

Several Championship clubs are already believed to be monitoring his situation after the Addicks were relegated to League One.

When asked by News Shopper whether it is too early to speak about his future at the Valley, Gudmundsson said: “We are just going to finish the last game and then concentrate on the Euros and see what happens after that.

“I don’t want to be concentrating too much into the future. I’m just going to look forward to the Euros right now.”

After a superb qualifying campaign, Iceland have been drawn in Group F in the Euros – along with Portugal, Hungary and Austria.

Gudmundsson believes there is a real chance for his country to progress to the knockout stage.

“On a personal level I just want to play as well as I can,” he said.

“Getting out of the group is realistic for us. There’s six groups and in four of them three go through, so that’s a big chance for us.

“I think we will be able to get through and that will be our aim.”

Gudmundsson has made 61 league appearances for the Addicks since signing from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2014.

The 25-year-old has become an influential member of the dressing room, scoring 11 goals last season and contributing 11 assists this term.

Gudmundsson says he holds strong feelings for Charlton – his first English club – and was “devastated” after relegation from the Championship was confirmed.

He added: “This is the first English club I’ve played for and it means a lot to me.

“To be relegated is obviously a disaster and something which I didn’t want for this club.

“This is a massive club which should be at least in the Championship so hopefully we can bounce straight back up.”
