Jose Riga says communication from the Charlton hierarchy is not enough, and that action is needed.

Speaking after the 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, the day will be remembered for the protests before, during and after the game.

Around 5,000 Charlton and Brighton fans marched to the Valley to show their frustration against Addicks owner Roland Duchatelet.

Within five seconds of kick off, the game was stopped as inflatable balls and balloons were launched on to the pitch.

And when play resumed in the seventh minute, Brighton took the lead moments later through Sam Baldock - a goal celebrated by sections of the home support.

Charlton boss Riga admits it was difficult to put his finger on what has to happen in the future for the club to move forward.

He said: “It’s difficult to say. But, communication will not be enough, it’s about acting through some decisions.

“Collaboration has to come back. I don't know all the whole story so it’s hard to speak about. It’s difficult for me.

“I know through results, lack of stability, it affects the club. I know it’s getting worse and worse.

“A relegation happens sometimes, but then it’s about learning from the mistakes.

“You see Bournemouth started in League One and are growing and growing with many smart decisions through effective recruitment and stability - it’s certainly the way going forward. The same has to be done here.”

Johann Berg Gudmundsson brought Charlton level in the 51st minute after good work from Jordan Cousins which allowed the Iceland international to tap in.

However, Chris Hughton’s men quickly restored their advantage when Jiri Skalak excellently curled his shot into the top corner, giving Nick Pope no chance.

With Charlton failing to create anything, Brighton got their third in injury-time through a Tomer Hemed penalty.

A flare was also thrown on to the pitch towards the end of the game - halting the contest for a third time.

When Brighton took the lead in the eighth minute, Riga refused to put the blame on the protests.

He added: “I don’t think so, it’s not the first time in this situation. It can surprise you but okay. We know already, we’ve known that we had to be ready from the first second.

“The players of Brighton were ready, we were not. We know that we play teams fighting for promotion. We have to be ready.”

As revealed by News Shopper on Thursday, a meeting took place between Duchatelet and Riga.

He said: “I spoke to him but it was a short meeting explaining more about my time here.

“After that, you can’t speak about everything and find the solution in one hour.”
