Nick Pope is certain that Charlton will beat QPR on Saturday if they put in the same kind of performance that earned them a 0-0 draw at Ipswich on Tuesday night.

The goalkeeper was in fine form to ensure the Addicks kept a clean-sheet away from home, but the result still leaves Jose Riga’s men seven points adrift of safety with six matches to go.

Lack of goals down the other end meant that the away trip to Loftus Road will have to see Charlton realistically come away with three points if they are to keep their Championship status.

And Pope feels that their efforts at Portman Road show that his side are capable of victory.

“We came here for the win and all the performance lacked was a goal,” said the 23 year-old.

“Their record on Tuesday nights is great and any other time of the season you’d come away feeling less disappointed but with the situation we’re in, we need wins.

“The dressing room is disappointed, but we go into Saturday now and if we put in the same performance, I’m certain we’ll win.”

The former Bury, York City and Welling United loanee was recalled into Charlton’s first-team for the away victory against Brentford in March following an injury to Stephen Henderson.

Since then, Pope has been in excellent form, keeping the Irish keeper on the bench and the Soham-born stopper is thankful to his back-four for helping him settle back into first-team action for the Addicks.

He said: “Having the likes of Rod [Fanni] and Jorge [Teixeira] helps and the full-backs have been great too.

“They’ve helped me since I’ve been back in the team and I’m grateful for it.

“My performances are just something I have developed really, I haven’t let the game dictate me, that’s helped by my loan spells.

“Being dominant in a box is something I’ve done for a while and it’s something I really enjoy doing to take pressure off the team and to create counter-attacks.”

Pope, a boyhood Ipswich fan, graced the Portman Road turf for the first-time on Tuesday and he admitted it was a dream come true.

He said: “I had a season-ticket here as a boy and was in their academy and that was the first time that I’ve got to play here.

“So to come in and keep a clean-sheet is something I’m really happy with.

“Now we go to QPR, the lads are down but we are also looking at the result positively, so there is hope.”
