Stephen Henderson insists Charlton must win six games to stay in the Championship.

Following the goalless draw with Cardiff on Saturday, the Addicks are six points from safety with 15 games to go.

Henderson believes Charlton need to take maximum points from 40 per cent of their remaining matches - and thinks it is possible with Jose Riga back in charge.

The goalkeeper said: “We need to win six - it’s difficult [the gap between us and the teams above] but we’re all aware and we’ve just got to keep going.

“The lads haven't chucked the towel in by all means. Hopefully, our luck will change soon.

“Jose’s come in and he’s been brilliant. He’s filled us with confidence.

“He’s a good man and his heart is in the right place. If we just keep on listening to him then I’m sure we’ll move forward.”

In the second-half against the Bluebirds, Charlton supporters rallied their team as they searched for a winner with Reza Ghoochannejhad and Simon Makienok coming close.

Despite protesting fans and anti-ownership songs being chanted during games, Henderson admits that fans have “got to do what they’ve got to do.”

He said: “Obviously we’re aware of the shenanigans at times - but they've been great with us and that’s all we ask from them, really.

“I’d like to thank the fans for their support and it was unfortunate that we couldn't give them a goal towards the end.

“We hear them, I probably hear it the most as I’m in front of it, but they’ve got to do what they've got to do.”

Henderson, who made his 50th Charlton appearance on Saturday, was pleased to keep his first clean sheet of the year.

The Dublin-born star, 27, pulled off a number of stops to earn the Addicks a point.

He added: “It’s been a long time coming, I made a few routine saves, but I’m delighted to keep the clean sheet.

“But, obviously we’re very disappointed not to win it in the end.

“I felt the players gave 100 per cent - we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net.”

Charlton travel to Fulham this weekend.
