Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo has been tipped to be a success at Charlton by new teammate Jordan Cousins.

Sanogo, who signed for the Gunners in 2013 from French club Auxerre, completed a loan deal on deadline day which will keep him at Charlton until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has only made 11 league appearances for Arsenal and endured difficult loan spells at Crystal Palace and Ajax over the past two seasons.

However, Cousins sees no reason why the former France U21 star cannot reignite his career at the Valley.

When asked whether he believes Sanogo can be a success in the Championship with Charlton, Cousins told News Shopper: “I think he can.

“History speaks for itself - he’s been at Arsenal and clearly has a lot of quality.

“It can only be good for him getting the games and hopefully he can get some goals for us.”

Cousins, 21, believes the Arsenal man can follow in the footsteps of Francis Coquelin, who flourished on loan with the Addicks last season.

He said: “We’ve had previous Arsenal players here and they’ve done well.

“Yaya has taken advice from Francis and he knows this is a club where he can regain his form, play some games and score goals.”

Sanogo joined the Championship-strugglers on deadline day along with former France international Rod Fanni.

The experienced right back also signed until the end of the season and will bolster Jose Riga’s defensive options.

Midfielder Cousins believes the French duo will help the club in their bid to avoid relegation.

The academy product said: “They are both great lads, I haven’t trained with them much yet but we have got a great changing room and we’ve had conversations.

“They know the fight we’ve got and want to help us.

“They are quality players – Yaya is coming from a big club like Arsenal and Rod has experience of the highest levels of football.

“They can only help us and hopefully they gel quickly.”
