Charlton have sealed their fourth signing of the January transfer window, with ex-Standard Liege defender Jorge Teixeira joining the club on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The 29-year-old, who boasts both Champions League and Europa League experience, has joined the Addicks for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £380,000.

The defender had been a regular for the Belgian side this season, but has today become Charlton’s fourth January arrival following the deals for Roger Johnson, Rhys Williams and Diego Poyet.

“I know it’s a hard challenge, but I like a challenge,” said Teixeira.

“I’m up for it and anyone who knows the kind of player I am knows I give everything on the pitch to help the club.

“I am here to help Charlton to achieve safety and I hope in the end we can all be happy. I’m here to help the team.”

After conceding 11 goals in their last two games, Charlton will hope the Portuguese defender will provide some stability at the back.

New Charlton boss Jose Riga said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Jorge to Charlton.

“I know him very well from his time at Standard and I am very satisfied that he has the qualities we need.

“He has played a lot of games already this season so he is fit and ready to join us which is vert important.”
