Jose Riga will play a central role in deciding the future of Tony Watt, News Shopper understands.

The Scottish striker will return to Charlton tomorrow morning following his loan spell at Cardiff.

Watt was sent to the Bluebirds at the end of November in a hope that regular first team football would inspire a return to form.

Following an early season burst at the Valley, Watt’s form dipped and Charlton took the decision to offer him on loan.

With Watt due to return to the club tomorrow, News Shopper understands that new manager Riga will be an influential figure in any decision over his future.

Several clubs are believed to be tracking the forward, who has scored seven goals in 35 league games for the Addicks, and will signal an interest if Charlton propose another loan deal.

Cardiff chiefs were impressed by Watt’s efforts and hoped to extend the loan deal, but Charlton rejected the request.

“We put it on the table but they were not interested in the loan,” Cardiff chief executive Ken Choo said. “They said no.”
