Charlton Athletic captain Johnnie Jackson has admitting his surprise at former manager Guy Luzon’s tactics while in charge of the club.

Luzon, 40, was dismissed last month following a wretched run which has seen the Addicks drop into the relegation zone.

Karel Fraeye was appointed as interim head coach following Luzon’s sacking, and Jackson insists the unknown Belgian boss has made a positive impact on the squad.

“We are a better squad than last season, no doubt about that,” Jackson, 33, said at the fans’ meeting at the Valley on Tuesday evening.

“A lot of the boys are having to play so much football, more than they can really. The injuries have decimated us – they are unfortunate.

“We have to say as players, we have not been playing at our best. Whether the previous manager had something to do, that is another question.

“He was never changing the system. We were too predictable and we were easy to beat.

“The new manager has brought a new freshness around the place – training has changed, he’s involved me a lot more.

“MK Dons was a low moment, one of my lowest at the club, but since the new manager has come in he has really freshened it up.”
