Karel Fraeye has urged Charlton supporters to back the team despite their wretched run of form.

The Addicks last recorded a league win in August and haven’t scored a single goal in their last five outings.

Fraeye's appointment as Interim Head Coach following the sacking of Guy Luzon has sparked substantial frustration amongst Charlton supporters, with a fans’ protest organised before Saturday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Fraeye said: “We’re not blind, we know we’re struggling to score and then it’s hard to win the games.

“We are working on that and I can only hope that the supporters are backing the players. A home game should be an advantage.

“I’m not blind or stupid, I know the controversy – so I hope that from kick-off the supporters will be behind the team.

“I hope they do their job because we can only do our job.

“I understand the frustration because no one wants to see their team at the bottom and things aren’t improving but it will need time.

“The biggest issue is that we see players that we know can perform much better – they did it earlier in the season, but they need confidence.

“That takes time, there’s no injections of confidence and we cannot buy it.

“It needs time and good results and wins.”

Fraeye, 37, also confirmed that Jordan Cousins will not feature in Saturday’s game, after the midfielder picked up an injury in the defeat to MK Dons.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is also a major doubt for the clash at the Valley.

“Jordan will be out, Johann is very doubtful for Saturday after receiving a hard kick on his leg,” the Belgian said.

“We will decide on Saturday if he can play. This is the situation we are in now.”

While Charlton’s next permanent manager remains unknown, Fraeye insisted that his situation is not important and that he has not held talks with owner Roland Duchatelet.

He added: “There are no discussions about my position.

“I’m working on a week-to-week basis, the least important thing at the moment is my position.”
