Karel Fraeye wants Charlton Athletic to regain a status as a solid Championship club following his appointment as Interim Head Coach.

Fraeye resumed the role on Sunday following the dismissal of Israeli boss Guy Luzon.

The 37-year-old took his first Charlton training session on Monday, after joining the club from VW Hamme, who play in the third tier of Belgian football.

“The most important thing is that we need to become a tough team again and be tough to beat,” explained Fraeye.

“That’s the first thing. This is one of the toughest championships in the world and we must be tough to beat. We have to bring it back to that.

“I’ve been following the Championship ever since I went back to Belgium, especially Charlton’s games – I’ve seen them all. So I’ve tried to share my ideas about this season and the problems that we have seen.

“We’ve tried to give them some solutions and, based on what I’ve seen this week from the training sessions and the chats with the players, I think they’re willing to pick it up.

“They are all good players.

“We have a good side and that is what I’ve heard from all the players – they, too, believe we really have a good side.”

More to follow.
